Studio - Funchal Historical Center - #101

This would be a nice place for a short visit, but for remote-working digital nomads on a long stay, it was pretty rough. There was no AC, so it was unbearably hot all the time. The only way to cool down was opening the windows, but the traffic was so loud and close that we had to yell at each other over the noise. When we did video calls for work, had to shut the windows and sweat. We were counting down the days to leave and wouldn't recommend it.

The staff and owner were great and the location is excellent. If we hadn't been spending 40 hours a week in the apartment trying to work, it would have been great.

Neighborhood
Busy city center neighborhood near the waterfront. Heavy traffic, lots of tourists, but tons of restaurants nearby.

The Jinn Cafe/bar was barely 50 meters away and it was excellent. We went for coffee a few times a week.

I really enjoyed my stay and I can recommend the apartment. I would surely come back, if I return to Funchal.

Pros:
- great location: close to all busses, grocery stores and city center
- internet connection without any issues (I did remote work)
- well equipped kitchen
- towel and bed linen exchange possible once a week
- super comfortable bed and blackout curtains
- Vìtor (the owner) replies very fast and is available for questions

Cons:
- it is quite noisy due to the busses and motorbikes on the road in front of the building (better at night of course and it didn't keep me from sleeping) - having a window open was too loud (and sometimes smelly) for me, which might be relevant in summer time.
- the laundry as well as the garbage room weren't as clean as the rest of the building
- in the first floor, people on the street can definitely look into your apartment when the blackout curtains are open; the bathroom has a frosted glass window though

Neighborhood
Very close to the city center, with lots of restaurants, shops and everything you need. Bus stops right in front of the building. Police station is just across the street.
The building itself is at the main road.

The studio is super organized and clean. The location is also a positive point since it's close to everything! My only issue was that it gets very hot with the windows closed and the streets are too loud to leave them opened at all time. An AC or Fan would easily solve this. The administrator of the property is very attentive and helped me with all my questions.

Funchal is just magical! It's a better version of Rio de Janeiro.

The studio is very modern, cleaned, and spacious. I loved my stay there although it should have a fan or AC - it's too hot inside. The apartment has all the facilities needed, a big supermarket 2mins walk and 5 mins walk to the ocean.

Neighborhood
The apartment is very central, within walking distance of everything you need. During the day it's a very busy street, however during the night is more empty, so be careful if you're walking alone, although it's right in front of the police station. There's a small mall on the other side of the street with all shops needed. There's also a rooftop in the same street that's very trendy and cool. It's a 3-5mins walk from the old town where you can find many restaurants and cable cars.

Pros:

- property company is very responsive
- great internet connection

Cons:
- unfortunately it’s noisy (because of the busses outside)
- not enough space to put clothes, shoes and bags (little wardrobe or couple of extra racks would solve this issue).
