Lida and Zdenek are Czech Nationals that left the Czech Republic in 1982 to immigrate to Canada, looking for a better life for themselves and their son.
In today’s post of our interview series with tenants, they will share more about their travel experiences since leaving the Czech Republic.
Flatio: You left the Czech Republic in 1982, during some turbulent times, can you tell us about it.
Lida & Zdenek: We illegally left our country after years of harassment by the communists in October 1982. We had to leave all our belongings behind as back on the day
Authorities would lock it for weeks. So it was just our son and us. Since then, we have lived in Canada, where our son could study and become one of Canada’s best Care Paramedics. He accompanied Queen Elizabeth II, USA Presidente Clinton, Pope Johan Paull II, and many other royal family members during their trips to Canada. He now works for the University of Toronto as a Paramedics teacher. We don’t want to brag about our son, but it’s just to say that we had made the right choice by leaving just before he turned 18 and had to join the army. Life in Canada turned out quite well for us, after all. Even though we are happy in Canada, we like to spend summers in Prague.
Flatio: Did you face any challenges when looking for a rental in Prague?
Lida & Zdenek: Before finding Flatio, we were dealing with different agencies in Prague. For a couple of years, with one of them, we were OK, but after that, they closed their business; we then tried other agencies, and our experience with them turned out poorly.
Flatio: How did you hear about Flatio?
Lida & Zdenek: We learned about Flatio on Internet while looking for an apartment in Prague.
Flatio: For how long have you been using Flatio’s services, and how would you describe your experience so far?
Lida & Zdenek: We have been using Flatio’s services since 2017. Our experience has been consistently pleasant, especially with the support provided by Zuzana. She is always ready to help, to do everything for us and provide the best possible assistance. Zuzanna has always been very patient and helpful, and she has our admiration for that.
Flatio: What are the plans for the future? Will you continue to spend summers in the Czech Republic?
Lida & Zdenek: If governments and coronavirus let us travel again, we will gladly contact our dear friend Zuzana to book our accommodation on Flatio. Let’s hope it happens this year.
