Digital Nomads Jobs You Can Do Anywhere in 2022

24. november 2021 · 2 minute
Being a digital nomad can mean a lot of freedom regarding where you want to live and what you want to do. In a world full of nine-to-fives and inflexible employers, more and more people are looking to digital nomadism for a sense of freedom, self-reliance, and control over their lives. But which jobs should you look for if you want to be a digital nomad? Here is just a shortlist of the most common jobs digital nomads do.

Copywriting & content writing

Copywriting is an excellent choice for many digital nomads, especially those interested in writing and marketing strategies. Copywriting can be done remotely for a single company, or you can be a freelancing copywriter, completing projects as you get them from clients. Like any such job, planning and keeping deadlines are essential. It’s also good to have some experience with SEO (search engine optimisation) as it has become an industry standard.

Virtual assistant

Many people in high positions in companies need all the assistance they can get as their workload is ever-increasing. Being a virtual assistant can be reasonably taxing, especially since you need to be there for your employer when they need you. This then may be a difficult job to do if you are in a vastly different time zone than your employer. However, organising yourself and others, being punctual, and keeping on top of every little detail will reward you with freedom outside of your job.

Social media manager

Most people see social media as a fun place to meet people or a good source of memes. But there are tons of companies who are looking towards social media for their marketing potential. If you have some experience with marketing smaller projects, you might want to manage business social media accounts for money. As with most of these jobs, the field is competitive, but if you know about the latest online trend, you can stay well ahead of the curve.

Video & audio editing

Editing video and audio is one of the more clearly defined skills. Having the right software and equipment is not cheap, and the know-how is usually developed over years of unpaid training. However, these jobs can be advantageous. In this day and age, endless social media influencers need their videos to look great, countless podcasts looking for better audio mixing, and companies that need both.

Translation

Similarly to copywriting, if you have a writing talent and know at least two languages very well, translation might be for you. It is recommended that you always only translate into your native language. Still, the reality is that many people from your country might need to talk to people whose language you studied – so there’s no real reason to keep to just one target language. Building clients are demanding, especially if your language is a niche, but very few people will match your offer if you are good at your job.

Teaching

Another digital nomad favourite is teaching. Most countries have people looking for teachers of world languages such as English, French, German, Portuguese, Mandarin, Japanese, and more. If your expertise is not languages, there are usually a lot of kids who might struggle with maths, physics, history, and more and could use extra lessons on the side. And today, you can do all of this online!

Programming and web design

Programming needs no introduction – it is the quintessential model of remote working for many people, and all you need is a computer for it. However, just like with video editing or translations, entering this field takes a lot of time and energy with very little to show for it at the beginning. If you want to start programming or do web design, starting right now is the only way you can expect to learn enough for a future job.
