How to Find Affordable Accommodation in Prague

28. january 2022 · 2 minute
Prague is one of the many gems Europe offers to travellers who want to see its historical side. And many people love it so much that they want to stay longer than just for a few days. But in which district can one find affordable accommodation for rent in Prague and how to find it? We put together this handy article to help you search for reasonable accommodation.

Neighbourhoods in Prague

Many visitors to Prague fall in love with its historical centre and feel the need to spend a few months there. But Prague's centre is costly if you want to stay for an extended period.

Places like Prague 1 (where the castle is), Little Quarter, New Town and Old Town are all beloved among tourists but a nightmare for finding affordable accommodation. This is why districts like Žižkov have become so popular.

Žižkov is an up-and-coming city district that, from the outside, seem unkempt and perhaps even dangerous.

But don't judge a book by its cover. The neighbourhood is pretty safe, and many of the cafés, bars, and clubs lean into the messy aesthetic similar to Budapest's ruin bars do. It has become very popular with young people, and the rent prices are very affordable. With proximity to the central train station and the city centre, all of this makes Žižkov a wonderful place to live.

Another cheap district is Chodov. This is a large area a bit farther away from the city centre.

You will find many good connections with the city centre thanks to the public transport in Prague so it may take you only 15 to 20 minutes to get there. And what's more, part of this district is also neighbouring a few forests, making it an excellent place for people who like strolling around.

The last place we want to mention is Holešovice. This part of town used to be pretty rough, but thanks to new parks, rebuilding, and many cafés and excellent restaurants, it has become one of the best and one of the most affordable places to live. And to add to all of this, it's also pretty close to the city centre.
