Public Places for Remote Work in Funchal

25. april 2022 · 2 minute

Working remotely brings many advantages. You get to travel to new countries and explore all of its towns and cities as well as natural beauties. But many digital nomads and remote workers separate their work from pleasure and only ever work from home. But remember, being a remote worker means you can work from anywhere. Whether cafés, libraries, or even parks, you can make your work part of the experience of your new home in this beautiful Portugal city.

Cafés in Funchal for remote work

Working remotely in a café has a lot of advantages. Good coffee and food go a long way towards making you comfortable and the change of surroundings can make you feel less like you’re stuck in a rut. Plus, remote workers love working from cafés so you might even have the opportunity to make new friends or business partners.

There are many cafés like O Maltez Café, Bonjour Café, or Arriga Café that are near the centre. While a bit touristy, the area still has many great places to sit and work. Though if you want a truly relaxed space, go to Jasmine Tea House. It’s literally a small house with a beautiful garden that could fool you into thinking it’s somebody’s home. And if you want to continue enjoying the greenery, then Greenhouse Coffee Roaster is the place for you. In short, Funchal is simply full of cafés to sit and work.

Libraries in Funchal for remote work

Libraries can be a great place to focus and get some serious work done. Quieter than cafés, they can be a great alternative to working from home. Most libraries have good Wi-Fi and lots of workspaces, though they might not be the best place for group projects, since they have strict rules around silence.

The best and most centrally located library is the Funchal Municipal Library. With a nice, open space for work, decent free Wi-Fi and pleasant staff, you will have a good space to focus. You can also use the computers they have in the library, but only for an hour. If you want to use them for longer, you have to clear that with the librarians. Once you settle in, you’ll appreciate the calm atmosphere.

Public parks for remote work in Funchal

Working outside is a great way to get some inspiration and catch some fresh air. It’s recommended to work on a device with good battery life, have some means of connecting to the internet (for example, through a hotspot mobile data), and to pick a place you like.

One of the most beautiful parks in Funchal is on top of Monte Palace hill. Full of tropical plants, it can be a very inspiring place to work for a few hours. And since Funchal is a port town, you can also work on a beach! Places like Praia do Almirante Reis or Praia Formosa are great for living out the digital nomad dream of sunbathing while working.
