Income requirement:

• To be eligible as a work-from-Thailand professional, individuals need to have earned $80,000/year or at least two years, with some exceptions. 
• Different types of Smart Visas have varying income and investment requirements.

Eligibility criteria:

• Smart Visa is available for highly skilled workers, investors, executives, and startup entrepreneurs in specific industries such as next-generation automotive, medical and wellness tourism, digital, and more.
• Each type of Smart Visa (Talent, Investor, Executive, Startup, Other) has different eligibility criteria.

• Apply online on the designated website.
• Qualify according to the criteria specified by the Board of Investment.

In 2022, the Portugal digital nomad visa was introduced, offering a new option for foreign digital professionals who want to explore Portugal while working remotely.

Here’s what you need to know about the visa, which is officially called a “residence visa for the exercise of professional activity provided remotely outside the national territory” and is a good alternative to the D7 visa, as the latter has stricter requirements and a more complicated procedure.

As of October 29, 2023, the Serviço de Estrangeiros e Fronteiras (SEF), the Portuguese immigration and border service agency responsible for documenting foreigners, issuing residence permits and extending visas, is no longer in operation and has been replaced by a new entity. The information below was provided by Portuguese authorities when SEF existed. At the time of writing (November 2023), no new change has been announced regarding the Portugal digital nomad visa. Please contact the Portuguese consulate or embassy in your country for the latest information.

• Temporary stay visa: 12 months with multiple entries.

• Age 18 or older.
• Not a citizen of an EU/EEA country.
• Contract for remote or freelance work.
• Accommodation in Portugal.

Application process:

• Assemble required documents (e.g., passport, bank statements, work contract).
• Fill out the application form on the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs website.
• Schedule and attend an appointment with a Portuguese consulate to submit the documents.
• Pay the visa fee: €75 for temporary stay, €90 for long-term.
• Travel to Portugal and attend an appointment with the new agency in charge of migration affairs (formerly SEF)  
• Pay an additional fee of €170.
• Residency card sent via postal mail.

• Open to non-EU nationals working remotely for non-Spanish companies.
• Maximum of 20 % income from Spanish firms.
• Available for both self-employed freelancers and remote workers employed by a company outside Spain.
• Applicants must be from outside the European Economic Area and not have lived illegally in Spain in the five years prior.
• Must demonstrate at least three years of work experience or relevant qualifications.
• No criminal record in Spain or the country of residence for the past five years.
• Proof of coverage from the country of origin. Difficult if the country has no social security agreement with Spain.

Application process:

• Can apply through a consulate or embassy in the home country or within the first three months in Spain on a tourist visa.
• Submit documentation including application form, passport copy, proof of payment, qualifications or work experience, proof of employment and income, proof of the company's existence, authorization letter from the employer, criminal record proof, and social security coverage proof.

In the meantime, non-EU nationals can establish residency and work remotely in Italy, often using the Italian Self-Employment Visa. The following information refers to the Self-Employed Visa, which serves as an option until the official introduction of the Italy digital nomad visa.

• The Self-Employed Visa in Italy is initially valid for one year and is renewable, potentially leading to permanent residency after the fifth year.

Income requirement:

• Applicants must have an annual gross income of at least €8,500, earned one year prior to their visa application or promised by contractual compensation for services provided to Italian clients or companies.
