Top Worldschooling Projects Around the Globe

2. october 2022 · 2 minute

One of the most important things you must ensure as a digital nomad family is finding high-quality education for your kids as you travel the world. Just because they have the freedom to see the world in a whole new way doesn’t mean they don’t need solid education. This is why we recommend these worldschooling projects for you to check out. But first…

What is worldschooling?

Worldschooling is an educational movement that argues that the best way for a child to learn is to learn not just from a book but from their surroundings as well. Worldschoolers put extra emphasis on travel, a multifaceted approach to education, experiential learning, and cultural exchange.

This is why some parents wait to become digital nomads until their child is of a certain age just to be able to provide this form of education to them. Worldschooling projects facilitate this type of learning, usually for a price that is similar to private schools. However, they are not online schools, though they might provide some online courses.

Worldschooling in North America

Camp Stomping Ground is a great place for summer education. Located in the New York state near the Catskill Mountains, the camp focuses on non-violent communication which focuses on emotional intelligence, identification of needs, and the acceptance and resolution of conflict as its main tenets. If you want to give your child some much-needed soft skills, this place is great.

If you’re looking for an ecologically minded community, the Manitoulin Worldschooling Community just outside of Toronto in Canada is the place for you. Their key focus is on harmony with nature and they stand for stewardship rather than ownership of our planet. The summer camps have been available for the last six years and they welcome both regulars and newcomers.

Worldschooling in Latin America

Abraxas Fun, in San José Tzal in Mexico, is a vibrant community of worldschoolers who are always looking for new members. Their focus is academic, educational, and recreational, making it the perfect place for just about any child.

Another good worldschooling project is The Hive in the Dominican Republic. Its main aim is to provide children with courses as short as six weeks and as long as a year to give them a more meaningful and purpose-driven outlook on life. The school wants to create learners who yearn to understand the world for their own ends and not just for dry academic achievement.

Worldschooling in Europe

Europe has two notable worldschooling projects. The first is Worldschooling Andalusia which provides everything from regular classes to workshops, meetups, and events. The project is aimed at exploring the surrounding region and its culture and welcomes international students from all over the world.

The second European project is the Porto Grana Worldschool Hub. This place is more of a free range of opportunities for children than anything else. With a gym, free bicycle rentals, a small theatre, a music room, and an audiovisual lab, it provides the space for directed self-education of kids on multiple fronts.

Worldschooling in Asia

Lastly, no list would be complete without The Green School in Bali. While they are more of a private school than a worldschooling institution, their methods are very similar to the projects above. Since 2009, they have been raising a generation of environmental scientists, artists, and social thinkers who will be at the forefront of ecological and sustainable politics, culture, and research in the future.
