Eliza Sliwa is a 44 years old freelance interior designer. Half Polish and Italian, Eliza is currently working on a freelance basis on interior design and hospitality projects for private investors. Eliza is a Host on Flatio and Ania K, and she now lives between Paris and Poland.

In today’s post of this interview series with Flatio's landlords, Eliza will share a bit of her experience as a landlord and her cooperation with Flatio.

Flatio: When did you start to be a landlord, and what has brought you to it?

Eliza: I started my hosting experience seven years ago when I purchased a holiday apartment at the seaside.

Flatio: What do you think about the current shift the market has seen from short-term rentals to midterm rentals being very popular due to pandemia? Do you think it benefits landlords like you?

Eliza: It has some benefits, which might be fewer people turnover so less hassle with cleaning, check-ins, etc., nevertheless I've noticed that the quality of travelers, their requirements and behaviors also has changed and unfortunately not in a positive way.

Flatio: What were the main challenges you faced when trying to find the right platform to advertise your accommodation?

Eliza: Most of the platforms focus on short-term stays, and some of these platforms are not giving guarantees in case of damages. On some of these platforms, you cannot exchange messages with the guest before the reservation is confirmed.

Flatio: Why did you choose Flatio & what are the main benefits for landlords renting through Flatio in your opinion?

Eliza: I found it on the internet when I was looking for a mid-term rental platform, and the benefit is that there is a valid contract in place and a check-in form, so I can be sure tenants will be accountable for any potential damage. Flatio collects the first payment, which is also very beneficial. Nevertheless, my latest guests were not aware that fees are not automatic, and they have to authorize payments each month.

Flatio: How was the experience with tenants you received from Flatio so far?

Eliza: I have hosted through flatio twice, and so far, so good.

Flatio: What do you expect from the rental market in the next coming months as the world gets ready to start recovering from the pandemic?

Eliza: It probably depends on the location. For sure typical holiday destinations near the sea, lakes or nature will be working very well as people tend to escape from the cities. The issue might be with the apartment in the big cities downtowns, as we don't know when the business will restart and under which form.

Flatio’s biggest mission is to allow people to live borderless in a sustainable way while also offering the possibility to landlords to earn some extra money and meet interesting people from all over the world. We are actively adding more inventory to the main European cities and Capitals.
