The Best Months to visit Budapest

You want to discover and explore the beauties of the Hungarian capital,  and let's say you are lucky enough to travel while you work, and now you are wondering about the best time of the year to travel to Budapest?

This article will show you that all seasons in Budapest are an experience on their own, and it’s worth taking the trip whether it’s winter, summer, spring or fall. Let’s discover Budapest’s many faces and all the festivities the city can offer throughout the year.

Warm months in Budapest

Summers tend to be the hottest in Hungary, with average temperatures in the high 60 °F to low 70 °F, but there are plenty of days in the 90 °F. Summer is the time for tourism; however, Budapest doesn’t get overcrowded with tourists, so summer is still a great time to visit. “The Budapest Summer Festival” offers multiple concerts, musicals, theatrical performances, dance shows, and children’s programs.

The fun ends with the August 20th festivities with a grandiose Fireworks Show. Spring starts with Easter, followed by the main “Spring Festival” and “Mayday”, which celebrate the beginning of spring and a celebration of love and abundance. Both months, April and May, tend to be pleasant with temperatures in the mid-60s °F.

Cold months in Budapest

Fall tends to be nice, and Spring and summer are just the beginning of the colder season. September and October are still hot months, having average temperatures in the low 70 °F. The so-called Indian summer at the beginning of October is especially a pleasant time of the year.

Towards the end of November, the city starts to prepare for the Christmas season with one of Europe’s most excellent Christmas Fairs in downtown Budapest. Although things calm down at the beginning of January, the winter season still has fantastic programs and activities for tourists and locals alike.

Winters in Budapest are freezing. Expect a frosty December. It’s very snowy, so after attending the Christmas Fair or any other festivity, it is the perfect time to cuddle up within your cosy, warm accommodation and enjoy the snow-white scenery from your window. Of course, cold months are not comfortable for everyone, so if you are instead a summer person, this might not be the best season of the year for you to visit Budapest.
