Travel Insurance for Trips to Budapest

16. august 2021 · 2 minute
Budapest is one of the best places in Hungary to travel to whether you wish to relax or improve your health. Although no matter where you want to travel to, you must not forget to make the travel insurance.

The usual travel insurance covers treatment, necessary medical care, transfers and repatriation. You may also make some additional insurance which might, for example, cover your luggage.

Healthcare insurance in Hungary

With Budapest being the main city of Hungary, we need to pay attention to the current state of Covid-19 in the country first. Hungary is currently included among the countries with a high risk of infection. The Ministry of Healthcare recommends that visitors take extra care and observe hygiene along with anti-epidemic measures. As in other foreign countries, it is necessary to arrange suitable healthcare insurance, which will sufficiently cover medical expenses in case of Covid-19 infection and payment of cancellation fees.

If you are from the EU, you may have already obtained a Health Insurance Card. Still, please remember that the insurance card will guarantee you medical care, but not for free. It's recommended that you always check all terms and conditions before getting any insurance. The insurance card also does not apply to all medical facilities.
In the event of an accident or illness, it will provide you with sufficient financial background. If you are not from the EU, you will need International Insurance designed to provide a comprehensive level of health care to foreigners.

Baggage loss insurance

You might like to consider getting the Baggage loss travel insurance, especially if travelling with a couple of pieces of luggage. It is the kind of comprehensive travel insurance that provides coverage for lost, stolen or damaged baggage.

Many things can happen with your luggage during your trip. That is why it's essential to have your documents (ID, Health Insurance Card, etc.) and some money with you in a handbag or purse instead of leaving it on your luggage left in the accommodation you are staying.

Trip cancellation insurance

There is always a chance you might need to cancel your trip, especially these days with countries restrictions changing constantly. To reduce the inconvenience caused by such situations,  it's wise to get insurance for trip cancellations.

This specific kind of insurance shall reimburse you for the pre-paid, non-refundable portion of the trip costs. Its coverage starts the following day after the purchase and lasts until the day of your trip.

The insurance covers various pre-paid expenses such as airline tickets, tour costs, hotel or rental property costs, event tickets, and more.
