Commuting Alternatives in Budapest

29. august 2021 · 2 minute
You suddenly need to transport across the city, and you need a faster or more sustainable way than the suburban public transport or taxi? Then you are in luck because we have prepared a quick guide of commuting alternatives for you and your few months’ stay in Budapest.

MOL Bubi Bike

In cooperation with MOL gas stations, Budapest and its Municipal Public Services developed the MOL Bubi bike transport system. It is a bicycle sharing network of 1,150 available bikes you may borrow at 98 various docking stations in the centre of the city. It is also the easiest and one of the fastest ways to commute through Hungary’s capital without any troubles. “Pay as you go pass” is charged with 20 HUF (forints) for each started minute. We recommend the “Monthly pass” for your long-term stay, which costs 500 HUF per month or the “Annual pass”, which costs 5 000 HUF per year.

Electric scooter rentals in Budapest

Alongside bike transport, there is also a new electric scooter-sharing system in Budapest. The US-based transport-rental company “Lime” has brought the electric scooters even to Hungary in 2019. All you need to do is download an app, and you can tranquilly borrow the scooter and set off. To download the app, you’ll need a valid phone number with an e-mail address for the confirmation code.

Via the app, you’ll find the scooter closest to you with the information of how much is it charged, you scan the QR code, and you’re ready to go. The scooters work with a chargeable battery and are constantly recharged at night, so they are all ready for new passengers the next day.

You can find the scooters in the green area on the app, and be cautious about leaving the scooter within the green area because if you leave it in the red zone, you might be blocked and charged a fine by the app. Prices start at 250 HUF and by every following started minute, the cost increase about 50 HUF.

Car rentals in Budapest

If you are not a fan of electric scooters or bikes, but you do enjoy driving on your own at the limits of your own pace, there is always a possibility of borrowing a car. Again, it is not complicated to rent a car wherever you happen to be since we all use technology daily. Multiple companies in Budapest rent cars via their apps for an affordable price.

The easiest way to rent a car in Hungary’s capital is to download to your smartphone (Android or iOS) the EconomyBookings App, find the location where to pick up your vehicle, choose a car, book it, and you’re ready to go.
