Finding dentist in Budapest

For tenants · 5. april 2020 · 2 minute

There are tons of dental clinics and dentists to choose from in Budapest as it has become a hot-spot for dental care tourism in Europe. The prices in Hungary have become so low that for many Western Europeans it’s cheaper to travel to Hungary, pay for accommodation and care, and go back than to pay for dental care back home. However, the low price does not mean bad practise, as the quality of care in Hungary in its various clinics often exceeds that of Western European nations. Travelling to Budapest for dental care is a good way to connect vacation with much-needed treatment.

English speaking dentists in Budapest

Because dental care for international patients has become such a large industry, there is no shortage of English-speaking clinics and doctors. They usually state their language competence online or one can check for themselves through a quick phone call during a preliminary consultation.

We can recommend a few solid clinics such as Budapest Dental or Pasarét Dental Clinic, but the one that seems to have the best name in expat circles is Kreativ Dental. Their staff has good English and their clinics often provide accommodation nearby, making your travel to Budapest for dental care a cakewalk.

Budapest dentists prices

The reason for such low prices of dental care in Budapest is the significantly lowered overhead. This results in high-quality services making about 60-80% of a Western European bill (or even much lower). So for example, whilst a dental bridge costs between 1000-1500 € in Italy or Switzerland, in Budapest it’s only 255 € including a 5-year guarantee. This means that even when you add travel expenses and accommodation you’re still well below the price of dental care in many Western countries, especially the USA or Britain. This gave birth to companies which mediate your dental tourism and who facilitate everything from accommodation and flight tickets to procedures and payments.

The second reason for the low prices in Hungary is the possibility of a tax refund for EU citizens or, if you are a US citizen, private insurance coverage. This means that when you return from your trip to Hungary, you may actually receive some portion of the dental care expenses back. Ireland, for example, provides a tax refund of up to 20% if one is able to provide a MED 2 form. And many countries are similar. This has become such a standard practice that dental clinics often compile necessary tax refund documentation for you (if requested), depending on which country you are from.

However, it is important to also look out for bad deals in Budapest. Many discounts and free services may actually hide fees for things like x-rays, painkillers, or even simple consultation so make sure that you know exactly what services you’ll be paying for.

Private dental clinics in Budapest

There are too many private companies to mention here, so instead, we’ll give you tips on what to look out for. The number one thing is testimonials. Whether on private forums or clinic’s websites, there is nothing better than the lived experience of a patient. And if that’s not enough, try and ask someone for their private phone number to talk to them directly about their experiences. Another thing to look out for is the equipment and space. If it is a larger clinic with high-quality equipment, chances are it is more solid and better established in the industry. The clarity of provided services and no hidden fees add further to the respectability of a clinic, so make sure you lookout for those. Overall, your search will be fruitful if you take all these tips into account.
