How to be a great Host to Digital Nomads

1. may 2021 · 2 minute
Everybody has been talking about digital nomads and remote workers as excellent tenants recently. You might have heard about them from your friends or read about them online. But what are they looking for in accommodation? Are their needs somehow different? We’re here to answer that.

What do Digital Nomads and Remote Workers need?

Digital nomads and remote workers are a specific group of tenants. They move about ostensibly to explore the new lands just like any visitor to your country, but many of them also need to work where they live. While some of them will move to cafés or co-working centres to work, others may want to stay in to focus. This is where you come in.

A lovely apartment is good; an apartment with all the necessities for digital nomads who work from home is excellent. Similarly, a well-situated apartment in the city centre or near the beach may seem like a winner. Still, if your apartment is cosy, spacious, easy to work in, or to relax, you might be surprised to find that many digital nomads and remote workers will choose your place over a “better” located one.

And if you put your rental up on Flatio’s website, you’ll gain access to a vast number of remote workers already trusting Flatio with their choice of home.

Equipment for digital nomads and remote workers

Digital nomads are called digital for a reason: most of them need electronics and internet connection to work remotely. So, number one on your remote worker equipment list should be robust and reliable Wi-Fi and a decent number of electrical plugs which are easy to access around the apartment.

Most nomads won’t even consider your rental without these. Another thing is a good workspace. A suitable, spacious desk and an ergonomic or office chair will go a long way towards making your rental work-friendly.

Add a desk lamp for some all-nighters, a shelve above the desk for some files and books, and even a spare monitor for multitasking, and you can find yourself getting messages from digital nomads left and right.

Digital nomads are used to bringing all sorts of things with them, but one thing they definitely can’t haul from country to country is furnishing. A fully furnished apartment is a must when you want to attract remote workers. But what some landlords forget is that a furnished apartment needs a fully equipped kitchen as well.

Nomads will look for a place where they can work effectively, and nothing spoils the workflow quite like not being able to have a quick bite or have food prepared from the day before.

The last thing to remember is that digital nomads and remote workers come from various backgrounds and countries. Things like international adaptors for electrical plugs are a given, but there may be specific needs that we can’t anticipate. The best thing to do is to be outgoing and offer them help with settling in, perhaps even setting aside some small finances on making your rental feel more like home for them.
