What to Do and See in Spain

24. march 2022 · 2 minute

Spain is overflowing with cool and interesting things to do and no list could possibly tell you about all of them. With that said, here is just a taste of the most fun things to do and see in Spain in 2022.

Valencia and art

This recent darling among digital nomads has won the 2022 title of the World Capital of Design. This well-deserved honour followed many years of the city incorporating modern designs into its historical architecture, the planned opening of the Caixa Forum in the City of Arts and Sciences and the World Design Street Festival. Valencia used to be known for its food and there's still plenty to enjoy in that department as well, but this award cements its place in the field of design and you shouldn't miss out on seeing the very cutting edge of this artform.

Biking in Benidorm

The small fishing village has been quietly rebuilding itself to become the Spanish Mecca of cyclists. Painting more than 130 kilometres of its roads to feature biking trails, it has created a complex web of paths that extend well beyond the town and into the Serra Gelada Natural Park above. And when you're tired and need a break, you can go to the many British-style cafés and take some time to regain your energy. Whether you want to come here for an extended weekend or you want to move here for a few months living, Benidorm will be an exciting place to be.

Taste the very best of Spain

The city of Sanlúcar de Barrameda in Andalusia has been awarded the 2022 title The Spanish Capital of Gastronomy. And no wonder it has, it is almost entirely packed with restaurants of all shapes and sizes, mostly specialising in fresh seafood fished from the nearby Gulf of Cádiz. It's also home to the Manzanilla sherry and a lush history reaching back to the 15th century. Since most restaurants have a view of the Atlantic, you will have an unforgettable experience looking over the ocean and tasting its fruits. Don't miss out on this truly unique city.

La Tomatina Festival

At the end of August, the small town of Bruñol in Valencia becomes the site of one of the most bizarre events in Spain. Firstly, a piece of ham is hung on a greasy pole and people are trying to climb the pole and get the ham. Once they do, an all-out food battle breaks out with everyone throwing ripe tomatoes for about an hour after which any throwing of tomatoes is strictly forbidden. This wonderfully strange event is called La Tomatina Festival and if you love the absurd, you will be in your element. Also, you get to throw tomatoes at people, and that's not too bad either.
