Digital Nomads and Remote Workers in the UK

26. april 2021 · 3 minute
So, you zeroed in on the United Kingdom as your next stop on your journey as a digital nomad, but you realise you don’t know much about it, apart from the fact that the queen has cool hats and likes corgis. Well, we’re here to help you with finding locations for your stay as well as giving you some idea about transportation as well as what clothes to pack in your suitcase.

Best Digital Nomad Locations in the UK

When thinking about the UK, most people think about London. However, you should know that while UK’s digital sector is growing and working from home is increasingly normalised, many people choose to live outside of London as well. Not only is it too costly for many people, some feel it is too noisy and polluted, and some think that it is not authentically British. There are many other cities and places you can go to as a remote worker in any case.

Bristol, for example, is a popular destination for many in South West England. While other cities may be larger or more international, Bristol is undoubtedly very cultured. If you were to go anywhere to see the yet undiscovered big hit, Bristol would be it.

Moving to the South Coast of the UK, many people would choose Brighton. Still, there is a better fit for many digital nomads: Bournemouth, where you can enjoy warmer weather than in the rest of the UK and more budget-conscious living and lovely beaches to top it off.

Finally, when choosing a place to stay, do check out South Wales. It won’t be on many people’s minds. Still, its beautiful nature, affordability, and vibrant cultural life make places like Cardiff and Swansea a wonderful place to stay for a few months on your digital nomad journey.

All Digital Nomads can agree that having a fully furnished and equipped place to live, with a reliable internet connection, is a must for a successful nomad experience. At Flatio, you can find a varied collection of studio flats and apartments, ready to move in, with an excellent WiFI connection and all bills included in the rent. It's also great for workers that want to live in each location for a few months and don't want to pay for a deposit. When you rent on Flatio for less than six months, you only pay the monthly rent.

Transportation in the UK

When flying to the UK, you want to make sure you land near where you want to say. Luckily, the UK has over 400 airports. There’s Heathrow near London, Stansted in Essex, and Luton, to name a few in England.

You’ll find airports in most large UK cities. Britain is also interconnected with rail. The privatised system of trains gets you quickly from one corner of Britain to the other, especially when you need to travel between larger cities. Just be careful that a ticket for a British train will be bound to a specific connection (much like a plane ticket is), rather than paying for a journey between two places.

Depending on where you’re from, this may take some time to get used to. Where you can’t get a train, you go by bus, or more specifically, a coach. A coach is a long-distance bus connection while the term bus is used for local public transport. Alternatively, you can join over three-quarters of UK residents in car ownership and experience the UK from the driver’s seat.

Weather in the UK

Weather in the UK depends a lot on the location. At times, the South Coast of England might remind you of a holiday resort with its sandy beaches and warm weather (though it rarely grows to tropical heights).

On the other hand, Scotland will be much colder on average (though no less beautiful). The whole of Britain has frequent drizzling and showers together with ocean winds and fog. It calls for an extra sweater and some warm socks.

If you are travelling to the UK and wants to find accommodation where you can pay month-to-month, with all bills included in the rent, including WIFI, check our selection of available apartments on Flatio UK. You can rent from 14 days to 12 + months. We offer a contract and support throughout your entire stay.
